Where does your gift go?
With a small charity you want to know where your money ends up. That is why we show it down to the euro. Your gift goes to building the school in Daban near Kumasi: materials, the local building team and the furnishing. Only bank and transaction costs are deducted, and those are limited. No overhead, no office in the Netherlands, no middlemen.

The board works entirely unpaid. Not one euro goes to salaries or an office in the Netherlands.

Every euro broken down
Where does every euro go?
This breakdown comes from our building budget and annual accounts. The vast majority goes straight to bricks, wood and the people who build the school. Whatever costs remain, we would rather tell you honestly than hide.

No overhead
Why nothing gets skimmed off with us
At many charities part of your gift disappears into overhead: salaries, campaigns and intermediate layers. At Fofie Foundation it is different, and that is down to how we are set up.
Unpaid board
No one on the board receives a salary or expenses. We do this alongside our jobs, out of a bond with the region Nana Fofie comes from.
Our own local building team
We build with craftspeople from Daban itself, working for the project. No expensive contractor charging a profit margin on top of the work.
No middlemen
Your gift goes straight from our account to materials and wages in Ghana. There is no chain of agencies or intermediaries between you and the school.
Everything in the annual accounts
Every expense, large or small, is booked and appears in the annual accounts. As an ANBI we are required to be that open, and we are glad to be.
How to check it yourself
You do not have to take our word for it
Trust is earned with proof, not promises. That is why there are three ways to see for yourself that your gift arrives and is well spent.
A photo per building phase
From foundation to finished classroom we record every phase on photo. You see with your own eyes how the school grows with the gifts that come in.
Public annual accounts
Our annual accounts and policy plan are online. In them you see exactly what came in and what it was spent on, down to the item.
Status per classroom
For each classroom we track what is finished and what the finishing still needs. So you know concretely which classroom you help and how far along it is.
What your gift does in practice
Small amounts, visible results

sends one child to school for a month as soon as the school opens.
€ 6.000
is the complete finishing and furnishing of a whole classroom, carried out by the local building team.
Because we work locally and without overhead, the cost price stays low. That same classroom would cost many times more through a Western contractor.
