The build log
Reports from the site, 2021 to nowMarch 2021·Phase 1 · foundation
The first stone in Daban
On land in Daban, on the edge of Kumasi, the first spade went into the ground. No outside contractor: a local build team from the region set out the foundation. From day one the agreement held that still holds now: everything built is published openly in this log.

The structure grows, stone by stone
Over three building seasons the foundation grew into the full structure: two floors, galleries with arches around the courtyard and roofs on the first blocks. Paid for with the gifts of our donors, without a loan and without a middleman.

Structure complete, the interior finishing begins
The last roof panels are down: all 24 classrooms are wind and watertight. The corridors are painted, the stairs poured. Now come the classrooms themselves: floors, plastering, frames and school desks. This is the phase in which every donation becomes directly visible on the floor plan.

Opening in phases, block by block
After the finishing we put the classrooms into use block by block, starting on the ground floor. Every opening is recorded in this log with name, date and photo. Whoever sponsors a whole classroom helps open it.
